Barbeque Corner II

So i know this post is probably a little biased but we might as well start of with a familiar favorite right?

On The Menu:

Assorted Seafood Lo Mien
Sesame Beef
String Beans with Pork

So I was in the mood for a favorite and then I usually like to try something new. Barbeque Corner II is one of my favorite restaurants for the real deal Chinese food here in Atlanta. It's often hard to come by anything authentic in this town with all these fusion mistakes people tend to send you to thinking they are doing you a favor by recommending things like "chipotle chicken corn soup with asparagus wrapped in bacon" or some weird chef's attempt at making something new... uh yuck.

The staff is super friendly (we go there so much the owner usually comes by to talk to us at the table), not much for decor ---but growing up in New Orleans has taught me that the place that looks most like a shack is the one that spends ALL their efforts on the FOOD, and doesn't have to trick you into eating at their restaurant with the lure of swankiness; and the food is ALWAYS a whirlwind of flavor, never to let me down.

Everyone loves seafood Lo Mein right? But does your seafood lo Mein include exotic mushrooms and veggie bits? How about large peices of delicious shrimp, scallop, and squid? I think not. It's your favorite lo mien but much much better. The noodles have that bouncy texture and they are coated in sweet salty spicy deliciousness.

The Sesame beef was the "new" item we ordered. Actually very much like sesame chicken. Same crunchy breaded but softened by sweet glaze and spice consistency as its usually ordered chicken cousin of the dish but beef. Spicy and amazing.

Finally, our most unassuming dish the string beans. Holy God, it is the best. It was originally an appetizer and because we get it so often they just made it into an entree for us! The string beans are coated in another delicious asian mixture of spice, sweet, and salty; But the salty comes from a garlicy glaze and the sudden burst when you bite into the little bits of ground pork and pickled veggies they've added to the dish. Absolutely amazing. My mouth is always on fire just like i like it. But, the best part is that for all you yellow bellies out there, you can order any of the dishes to whatever level of spicy you like! Soft and yet crunchy string beans (defying science -- they must be wok fried over HIGH heat or something) fully coated and when accompanied with a couple other dishes to heat and cool down the mouth its absolutely the best.

Usually the food doesn't make it past the night because even thought the portions are PLENTIFUL, its so delicious that I usually stuff myself (something i NEVER do-- due to a often weak constitution in the world of champion eating). My boyfriend will often eat all the rest and even though it's easy for him because he is "the garbage disposal" of the duo, he leaves with a very full belly and usually some complaints pertaining to his over-stuffing---something that never happens as the man can eat more than a half pound of pasta in one sitting.

The best part of this all? for the three meals we might have just broken the $30 mark. Never disappointed I always over tip. I'd much rather sit in silence eating in amazement then look at pretty drapes and the updated color palette of 2010. And the menu is absolutely endless, there are often crab, lobster, prawn, and even frog in the tank waiting to be eaten next to the barbecued duck. Amazingly Good. Go support local business!

  1. Yes, this place is the shizzz-nitzel!! Price is great and the food is better...

And don't order the "run-of-the-mill" Chinese dishes either. Forget the Mongolian Beef, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Wonton Soup, etc...

There are about 8000 items on the menu and almost everything is good. Ask the staff for some recommendations or explanation if you need to. You wont be disappointed.

  2. After I read about Bagel Palace and feeling the same, I really think I might like this place too. Maybe this weekend I'll visit them.
